The AMERICAN BOARD of SPORT PSYCHOLOGY certification, online courses and training programs are based on a trend in education to provide distance education opportunities to qualified individuals unable or unwilling to attend classes or onsite workshops and seminars.
Top schools in the nation offer this innovative mode of teaching, training and dissemination of information.
This method is well-suited for professionals with extensive prior education, as well as highly motivated and self-directed persons having experience working with athletes who are interested in advancing their knowledge of sport psychology.
The American Board of Sport Psychology certification programs are available to interested practitioners, coaches, instructors, teachers, educators, psychologists, physicians (Sport Medicine, Psychiatrists, etc.) and athletes.
The curriculum is based on cutting-edge research in the fields of sport psychology, behavioral medicine, psychophysiology, clinical and experimental hypnosis, cognitive psychology, consciousness studies, and motor learning.
The learning and training program was developed by Roland A. Carlstedt, Ph.D.
The training course is an academic and applied program and is designed to help practitioners reliably assess and apply methods of intervention (i.e., mental training) best suited to a specific athlete.
The program requires that books and articles are read covering the topics in the curriculum modules including two text books in sport psychology that serve as foundational reading for the course.
A comprehensive course guide with an extensive research bibliography is provided each student.
Thereafter students complete a series of tasks and research centering on the topics of each module.
Assignments are transmitted to a student's instructor through email attachments for feedback and evaluation.
After completing and passing all assignments students are required to complete an applied practicum and final project
Upon successful completion of the final project students will have earned the designation:
